We employ our engineers. All of them.

This industry runs on agency labour, and it shows in the workmanship. We took a different position and we have held it: every engineer on a Data Cablers site is directly employed by the group, on a contract, with training funded and progression mapped. It costs more. It is the reason our test results and our client retention look the way they do.

What we recruit for.

We recruit continuously rather than only against a live vacancy, because good engineers become available on their own timetable rather than ours. If your discipline is below and you are considering a move, we would rather hear from you early.

Field

Structured cabling engineer

Copper and fibre installation, termination and testing across commercial fit-out, education, retail and data centre environments.

  • ECS card, or supported to obtain one
  • Fluke DSX or equivalent test experience valued
  • Full UK driving licence
  • DBS check required — we arrange and fund it

Field · specialist

Fibre technician

Fusion splicing, field termination, pre-terminated trunk deployment, Tier 1 and Tier 2 testing, and OTDR fault location across campus and data centre backbone.

  • Splicing and OTDR interpretation experience
  • Data centre working experience valued
  • Out-of-hours and night working availability

Design

Wireless surveyor / designer

Predictive design and validation survey work for Wi-Fi 6, 6E and 7 deployments, including the 2026 upper 6 GHz band framework and its cabling implications.

  • Survey tooling experience (Ekahau or equivalent)
  • Report writing to a client-facing standard
  • Understanding of PoE budgeting and backhaul design

Supervision

Site supervisor

Running teams on fit-out, rollout and data centre programmes. Responsible for the standard on site, the evidence collected, and the client relationship at working level.

  • SSSTS or SMSTS
  • Experience of RAMS and permit-driven environments
  • Willing to stop work rather than accept a shortcut

Delivery

Project manager

Owning programmes from survey through handover: scope, procurement, labour planning, client communication, evidence pack and commercial close-out.

  • Structured cabling or M&E project delivery background
  • Comfortable with named-standard specifications
  • Client-facing at estates and IT director level

Office

Estimator & technical author

Surveying, take-off, pricing and proposal writing to the 48-hour turnaround we commit to, including the standards commentary that accompanies our quotations.

  • Take-off from drawings and site survey
  • Precise written English — the proposal is the product
  • Working knowledge of BS EN 50173 / 50174

02 · What we offer

The terms, stated plainly.

  • 01Direct employmentPAYE contract with the group, not a day-rate arrangement through a third party and not an umbrella company.
  • 02Funded training and cardsECS, SSSTS, SMSTS, manufacturer system registration, IPAF, PASMA and asbestos awareness funded by the group, and time given to complete them.
  • 03Progression across five divisionsData, electrical, fire and security, warden call and EV sit in the same company. Moving discipline does not mean leaving.
  • 04Proper tooling and vehiclesCalibrated test equipment, a vehicle for field roles, and the materials to do the job correctly the first time.
  • 05Out-of-hours worked fairlyNight and weekend working is part of this trade. It is planned, it is paid, and it is not sprung on you the afternoon before.
