Data cabling in Luton.

Luton is a genuinely mixed commercial economy — airport and aviation-adjacent operations, the Capability Green and Butterfield business parks, a long-established manufacturing and distribution base, and a town centre under sustained regeneration. Twenty-five minutes up the M1 from our office.

Local context

Some Luton buildings never close.

Airport-adjacent operations, distribution centres and 24-hour manufacturing do not have an out-of-hours window in the way an office does. There is no quiet Sunday, and the planning has to reflect that honestly rather than assuming one exists.

  1. Continuous operationsWhere the building never stops, work is phased around shift patterns with a tested rollback position at every stage rather than scheduled into a window that does not exist. We would rather roll a phase back than run over and hope.
  2. Airport and aviation-adjacent sitesAirside and airport-adjacent operations carry their own security, pass, escort and induction regimes, frequently with long lead times on clearance. These are planned into the programme at tender stage, not discovered when an engineer is turned away at a gate.
  3. Capability Green and ButterfieldModern business park offices with conventional Cat6A specifications, usually to a landlord standard, and frequently multi-tenant — which means a licence to alter, a controlled riser and a make-good obligation to read before pricing.
  4. Industrial estates and distributionThe long-standing manufacturing base and the distribution sheds along the M1 corridor. Fibre backbone to satellite cabinets, hardened outlets, dock-level connectivity and wireless validated against loaded racking.
  5. Town centre regenerationNew build and refurbishment across the regenerating centre, including mixed-use schemes where residential, retail and commercial infrastructure meet in one building and the fire strategy governs the cable specification.

Worth saying plainly

We will decline a window we do not believe is achievable.

On continuous-operation sites the pressure is always to compress the work into a shift change. A contractor who agrees to an impossible window is not being accommodating; they are transferring the failure risk onto your operations team.

We will tell you before you commit internally, and we will propose a phasing that actually works instead.

Services locally

What Luton asks us for.

Fibre

Site & campus backbone

OS2 and OM4 across large sites and between buildings, fusion spliced or pre-terminated, with Tier 1 loss and Tier 2 OTDR results issued as standard.

Fibre

Copper

Cat6A & hardened outlets

Office, warehouse and dock-level copper designed to BS EN 50173-1, with containment fill and PoE thermal performance calculated rather than assumed.

Copper specification

Wireless

Warehouse & operational Wi-Fi

Scanner, MHE and VoIP coverage validated against loaded racking and real operating conditions, not an empty floor plate.

Wireless design

Continuity

UPS & resilient power

Where the operation never stops, UPS classified to BS EN IEC 62040-3 with autonomy sized from measured load, plus maintenance bypass so servicing does not mean an outage.

Cabinets, UPS & power

Small works

Adds, moves & changes

Fixed rate per point*, labelled into your existing scheme, with a test certificate for every point however few.

How MACs work

Remediation

Comms rooms & rack tidies

Rebuilt live, port by port, with no unplanned loss of service — which on a 24-hour site is the entire requirement.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers.

Our site runs 24 hours. How do you work around that?

By phasing rather than by waiting for a window that does not exist. Each phase has a defined and tested rollback position, so if a stage cannot be completed we return the system to service rather than running over. We plan around shift patterns and agree the phasing before starting, not during.

Can you work on airport or aviation-adjacent sites?

Yes, subject to the site's own security, pass and induction regime. Those clearances often carry long lead times, so tell us at enquiry stage and we will build them into the programme rather than discovering them at the gate. Our engineers are directly employed, DBS checked and ECS carded.

Can you rebuild a comms room without downtime?

That is precisely what a live rack remediation is. Full port audit and as-found photographs first, then re-patched port by port to correct lengths with proper management, dead and orphaned links traced and recorded, and the room documented as left with cooling and load reviewed.

Do you cover Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard?

Yes — LU5, LU6 and LU7 are within our normal operating area, along with Houghton Regis and the wider South Bedfordshire district.

How is a UPS sized properly?

From the measured load at the cabinet, not from equipment nameplate ratings. Nameplate sizing produces an oversized, expensive unit running inefficiently; optimistic estimating produces one that will not hold the runtime you were promised. We measure, state the topology class under BS EN IEC 62040-3, and tell you in writing what runtime you will actually get — including in year four when the batteries have aged.

Can you do the electrical work too?

Yes. The group holds NICEIC certification directly, so containment, fire stopping, cabinet supplies, distribution, UPS and the electrical elements of a PoE design under BS 7671 Section 716 are delivered and certificated by the same company that installs the cabling.
