Capability

Two points or two thousand. The same standard.

Most clients meet us on a small job and retain us for the estate. That is deliberate. We price the first visit to be worth repeating, and we apply the same documentation discipline to a two-point change as to a two-thousand-point installation. The commercial logic is simple: estates rot at the margins, and the margins are where most contractors stop caring.

They are not a contractual commitment unless confirmed in writing.

01 · How work reaches us

Three commercial routes. One delivery standard.

New installations

From empty shell to live floor

Fit-outs, refurbishments, relocations and new build. Outlet schedule agreed, containment set, cable installed, terminated, tested and handed over against a fixed programme. Our own electrical teams deliver the containment and fire stopping, so no trade is waiting on another trade's subcontractor.

  • Outlet schedules and cabinet elevations issued before first fix
  • Containment, tray, basket and fire stopping delivered in house
  • Manufacturer-backed system warranty where specified
  • Nights and weekends without a scramble premium*
  • Programme dependencies identified in writing at tender stage

Adds, moves & changes

The small jobs that wreck estates

A desk moves. A meeting room becomes three. A camera needs a point. Small work is precisely where cabling estates quietly degrade — undocumented, unlabelled and untested — so a two-point MAC receives the same paperwork as a two-hundred-point installation.

  • Fixed rate per point, with no minimum call-out padding*
  • Labelled into your existing scheme, never into a new one
  • Test certificate for every point, however few
  • Cabinet record and floor plan updated and returned
  • Annual rate card available for estates and frameworks

Remediation

Comms rooms nobody dares touch

If your team cannot trace a link without unplugging it, that room is an unquantified operational risk sitting on your balance sheet. We rebuild it live, port by port, with no unplanned loss of service and a documented rollback position at every stage.

  • Full port audit and as-found photographic record first
  • Re-patched to correct lengths with proper cable management
  • Dead and orphaned links traced, removed or formally recorded
  • Documented as left; cooling, load and containment reviewed
  • Cabinet earthing and bonding verified against BS 7671

02 · Copper

Balanced twisted pair, specified against the building.

Copper is specified against three things and only three things: the applications the channel must carry for its design life, the electrical environment it passes through, and the fire strategy of the building it sits in. Category inflation solves none of them. We price the correct class and we evidence the reasoning.

Every copper installation is designed to BS EN 50173-1 and installed to BS EN 50174-2, with separation from power, bundle limits and containment fill calculated rather than assumed. Reaction-to-fire class is selected against the building's fire strategy, BS 6701 and any client or insurer requirement, and the Declaration of Performance is recorded in the handover pack.

CategoryClassBandwidthTypical application
Cat5eClass D100 MHzLegacy estates, 1G edge, replacement-in-kind
Cat6Class E250 MHz1G edge, 10G to 55 m in favourable conditions
Cat6AClass EA500 MHz10G to 100 m. Default for new build and Wi-Fi 6E / 7 backhaul
Cat7 / 7AClass F / FA600–1000 MHzScreened environments; requires GG45 or TERA to realise the class
Cat8.1 / 8.2Class I / II2000 MHzData centre top-of-rack, 30 m channel maximum

Where we will argue with your specification

Category 7 is an ISO/IEC 11801 class with no ANSI/TIA-568 equivalent. Specifying Cat7 cable terminated on RJ45 modules delivers a Class EA channel at Class F cost. If your specification says Cat7, we will ask what the connector is before we price it, and we will put the answer in writing.

03 · Power over Ethernet

PoE is now a Wiring Regulations matter. Price accordingly.

Power over Ethernet moved from a data convenience to a regulated electrical consideration when BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 was published on 15 April 2026, introducing a dedicated Section 716 for Power over Ethernet alongside a new section on functional earthing and functional equipotential bonding for information and communication technology systems. The superseded edition is withdrawn on 15 October 2026.

  1. Bundle sizing and heat rise are calculated, not guessedType 3 and Type 4 PoE under IEEE 802.3bt carry up to 90 W at the powered device. Conductor heating within large bundles reduces the permissible channel length and can push a compliant design out of specification. We calculate bundle limits against BS EN 50174-2 and record the assumption.
  2. Conductor gauge and construction are selected for the loadWhere PoE loading is high, we specify larger conductor gauge or screened construction to manage temperature rise rather than accepting the lowest-cost cable that satisfies the data class alone.
  3. Functional earthing and bonding are designed, not inheritedThe new A4:2026 provisions on functional earthing and functional equipotential bonding for ICT systems are applied to cabinet, containment and equipment earthing arrangements, and evidenced in the pack.
  4. Containment fill is set against thermal performanceFill percentages are specified to permit heat dissipation, not merely to fit the cable in. This is one of the most common failures we find on inherited estates.
  5. The electrical interface is signed off by an electrical contractorBecause the group holds NICEIC certification directly, the electrical elements of a PoE installation are designed, delivered and certified inside the same organisation that installs the cabling.

The commercial exposure

Who signs the electrical element of your PoE design?

A structured cabling contractor without electrical certification is now, in practice, contributing to a design governed by a standard it is not certified against. On a higher-risk building, or on any project where a competent person must demonstrate skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours under the Building Safety Act regime, that gap becomes a question at Gateway rather than a question at handover.

We raise this at tender stage, in writing, on every project with material PoE loading. Some clients find it uncomfortable. All of them find it cheaper than finding out later.

Testing standard

Tier 1 insertion loss to IEC 61280-4-1 (multimode) and IEC 61280-4-2 (singlemode), with Tier 2 OTDR traces supplied for backbone and any link where a fault would be expensive to locate later. Polarity on MTP and MPO systems is verified on site before any transceiver is fitted.

04 · Fibre

Where distance, bandwidth or noise rules copper out.

Fibre is not an upgrade, it is a different design decision. It is correct where the channel exceeds copper reach, where the bandwidth roadmap outruns the category, where electrical noise or lightning risk makes a metallic path a liability, or where the building demands electrical separation between zones.

We fusion splice, field terminate and install factory pre-terminated trunk assemblies according to what the programme can actually absorb. On a live floor, pre-terminated trunk that arrives tested and reduces days on site is usually the entire commercial argument — and we will say so even when the field-terminated alternative carries more of our labour.

  • BPre-terminated MTP / MPOFactory terminated and factory tested assemblies with verified polarity.
  • CExternal and inter-buildingDuct, direct burial and catenary routes to BS EN 50174-3.
  • DFault location and repairOTDR fault isolation, emergency splice and permanent make-good.

05 · Wireless

Wi-Fi that was designed. Not guessed.

A wireless quotation without a survey is a materials list with a margin on it. We design predictively against the drawings and the intended use, we validate against the building as constructed, and we issue a report that evidences coverage, capacity, signal-to-noise and roaming behaviour against the criteria agreed before the order.

  1. Requirements captured before designClient density per area, application profile, minimum data rate at the edge, roaming requirement, and what the space will be used for in three years rather than today.
  2. Predictive designModelled against floor plans with real material attenuation, not default wall types. Access point positions, mounting method, orientation and cabling routes issued as a drawing.
  3. Cabling designed to the wireless designCat6A minimum for Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 backhaul, containment routed to the access point positions, and PoE budget calculated against the actual access point load under BS 7671 Section 716.
  4. Validation survey after installationMeasured on the built environment with the furniture, racking and occupancy that will actually be there. Findings corrected before handover, not listed as observations.
  5. Report issued as evidenceHeat maps, per-criterion results, access point inventory and channel plan, issued in a form you can hand to an incoming supplier or auditor.

UK spectrum position · August 2026

The whole 6 GHz band is now in play. The design rules are not the same across it.

The lower 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz) has been available for licence-exempt Low Power Indoor and Very Low Power Wi-Fi use in the UK since 2020. In its statement of 20 July 2026, Ofcom adopted a hybrid-sharing framework for the upper 6 GHz band (6425–7125 MHz): Wi-Fi holds priority in 6425–6585 MHz, mobile holds priority in 6585–7125 MHz, with licence-exempt LPI and VLP operation permitted and higher-power or outdoor use conditional on Automated Frequency Coordination.

The practical consequences for an indoor estate: more usable 320 MHz channels for Wi-Fi 7, unchanged indoor power limits, and therefore no reduction in access point count. Any proposal that claims otherwise should be tested against the statement before it is accepted.

06 · Containment, fire stopping & electrical interface

The part of the job that fails audits.

Cabling contractors routinely subcontract containment and fire stopping, and then discover at handover that nobody photographed the penetrations before the ceiling closed. Because the group holds electrical certification directly, this work is ours, and the evidence is collected as a condition of proceeding rather than as a favour.

Containment

Tray, basket, trunking & conduit

Designed for fill percentage, load, thermal performance under PoE and future capacity. Segregated from power in accordance with BS EN 50174-2 and BS 7671, and bonded where required.

Fire stopping

Penetrations reinstated and evidenced

Every penetration formed through a fire compartment is reinstated using a tested system installed within the manufacturer's field of application, and photographed with its location reference before it is concealed.

Electrical

Cabinet supplies, PDU & bonding

Comms room and cabinet supplies, PDU installation, earthing and bonding, and remedial electrical works delivered under the group's NICEIC certification to BS 7671, on the same order.

07 · Comms cabinets, UPS & power

We supply and install the cabinet, the power and the protection.

A structured cabling contractor that cannot energise what it installs leaves you managing an interface. Because the group holds NICEIC electrical certification directly, the cabinet, its supply, its distribution and its uninterruptible power protection are supplied, installed, tested and certified on the same order as the cabling — by one contractor, under one programme, with one set of records.

Enclosures

Comms cabinets — wall and floor standing

Supplied and installed to 19-inch rack geometry under IEC 60297, sized against the equipment schedule and the growth allowance rather than against what fits the alcove.

  • Wall-mounted enclosures for edge, riser and satellite positions
  • Floor-standing cabinets for comms rooms and data halls
  • Depth, width and U height specified against equipment and patching
  • Bonded and earthed to BS 7671, with the bond evidenced
  • Blanking, brush strips, cable management and shelving fitted
  • Locks, access control and asset labelling as required
  • IP-rated enclosures to BS EN 60529 for plant rooms and external positions

Protection

UPS and battery systems

Supplied, installed, commissioned and documented. UPS topology is specified against the load's tolerance for a transfer, not against the cheapest unit that fits the cabinet.

  • Rack-mount and floor-standing UPS from single cabinet to room scale
  • Topology classified to BS EN IEC 62040-3:2021 — VFI, VI or VFD
  • Autonomy sized from the measured load, not the nameplate
  • Maintenance bypass where continuity during service is required
  • Network monitoring, SNMP cards and shutdown integration
  • Battery replacement programmes and end-of-life recovery
  • Commissioning record and handover documentation issued

Supply

Power supplies and distribution

The electrical works that data projects habitually leave to somebody else, delivered under the group's NICEIC certification to BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 and certificated.

  • Dedicated final circuits and sub-mains to comms rooms and cabinets
  • Distribution boards, isolation and local protective devices
  • PDU supply and install — basic, metered, switched or per-outlet
  • Earthing, bonding and functional earthing for ICT under A4:2026
  • PoE load assessed against Section 716 before the supply is sized
  • EICR, remedial works and periodic inspection on the same account
  • Electrical Installation Certificate issued on completion

The question worth asking your current supplier

Who sized the UPS, and against what measurement?

A UPS specified from equipment nameplate ratings is almost always oversized, expensive and running inefficiently at a fraction of its rated load. A UPS specified from an optimistic estimate is undersized and will not hold the runtime you were promised when it matters.

We size autonomy from the measured load at the cabinet, we state the topology class, and we tell you in writing what runtime the battery will actually deliver at that load — and what it will deliver in year four, when the batteries have aged.

Why it sits on one order

Cabinet, containment, supply, distribution, UPS and cabling procured separately means four suppliers, four lead times and four sets of documents — and an argument about whose fault it is when the cabinet arrives before the circuit. On one order it is our programme risk, not your coordination problem, and the whole assembly is certificated together.

08 · Microsoft Teams Rooms & AV

Meeting rooms fail on the network and the room. Rarely on the hardware.

Organisations spend heavily on certified room hardware and then run it over an outlet that was never designed for it, in a room whose acoustics and sightlines were never assessed. We design the room, the cabling and the power as one system, install the AV on top of it, and verify the result against published performance standards rather than against whether the screen switches on.

Collaboration

Microsoft Teams Rooms

Certified room systems designed, installed, commissioned and handed over as a working room — not as a box on a table and a link to the manufacturer's guide.

  • Teams Rooms certified systems for huddle to boardroom scale
  • Front-of-room displays sized to ANSI/AVIXA V202.01:2026
  • Camera, microphone and speaker selection for the actual room
  • Touch consoles, room booking panels and occupancy sensing
  • Table boxes, floor boxes and cable management fitted properly
  • Room enrolment, resource accounts and hand-over training
  • Zoom Rooms, Google Meet and BYOD rooms delivered equally

Audio visual

AV systems & digital signage

Beyond the meeting room: presentation spaces, auditoria, reception, retail and operational display estates, specified against use rather than against a product catalogue.

  • Displays, video walls and projection for presentation spaces
  • Digital signage, wayfinding and retail display estates
  • Distributed and reinforced audio, paging and background music
  • AV over IP distribution and matrix switching
  • Control systems, room automation and single-button start
  • Racks designed to AVIXA F502.02:2020 with proper thermal planning
  • Cable labelling to AVIXA F501.01:2015, documented at handover

Infrastructure

The layer everyone forgets

The part that is ours by default and somebody else's problem on most AV projects. Because we install the cabling, the cabinet and the power, the room is designed from the outlet outwards.

  • Microsoft recommends 10 Mbps up and down per Teams Room
  • Wired connection strongly recommended over wireless by Microsoft
  • QoS marking designed into the network, not retrofitted after complaints
  • Cat6A backhaul to display, camera and console positions
  • PoE budget for panels and cameras assessed under BS 7671 Section 716
  • Containment, floor boxes and power delivered on the same order
  • Acoustic and sightline assessment before the display is specified

Straight answer

The screen is the last decision, not the first.

Most meeting room specifications start with a display size and a certified bar, and work backwards. That is the wrong order. Viewing distance sets the display size under V202.01. Ambient light sets the contrast requirement under V201.01. Room volume and seating set the audio design under A102.01. Only then does the hardware list follow.

We do it in that order and we show you the calculation. If your existing room is already correctly specified and only needs a network and power upgrade, we will tell you that and quote accordingly.

Verified, not just installed

AV systems are handed over with a performance verification record and a documentation pack aligned to ANSI/AVIXA D402.02 and D401.01 — the same evidence discipline we apply to a cabling certificate. A room that works on the day of handover and degrades quietly afterwards is a room nobody measured.

09 · Testing & certification

Every link. Never a sample.

Sampling is how a marginal installation passes. We test one hundred per cent of links, show headroom on each result, and issue the native tester file alongside the PDF so the data can be re-interrogated rather than merely read.

Where an installation is inherited, undocumented or in dispute, we will test and certify it as a standalone commission and report honestly on what we find — including where the existing infrastructure is sound and does not need replacing. That report is issued whether or not any remedial work follows.
