Data cabling in London.

Working in central London is a logistics problem before it is a cabling problem. Loading bay slots, building inductions, permit-to-work regimes, out-of-hours restrictions, ULEZ and the Congestion Charge, and a managing agent who will not release the riser without three days' notice. We price for how the building actually runs.

Local context

Five London environments. Five different jobs.

  1. The City — trading floors and dealing roomsScreened cabling, strict segregation from power, controlled change and a complete audit trail against the change reference. Work happens in a change window agreed with a change board, not when it suits the programme, and a link that comes back late is a business incident rather than a snag.
  2. Canary Wharf — managed estate disciplineEstate-wide induction, permit-to-work, escorted access and loading bay booking. The paperwork is a substantial part of the job and getting it wrong costs a booked window. We submit in the format the estate requires rather than the one we prefer.
  3. West End — period and listed buildingsA great deal of West End commercial space sits in period or listed stock where you cannot chase, drill or route freely. Surface containment selected sympathetically, consent respected, and the honest conversation about what is and is not possible held before the order.
  4. Shoreditch and the tech corridorConverted warehouse and industrial stock with exposed services, where the containment is visible and therefore part of the design rather than hidden above a ceiling. High density, heavy Wi-Fi demand, and tenants who move fast.
  5. Retail and hospitalityOxford Street, Regent Street, Covent Garden and the estates. Overnight working so the unit trades at nine, with a rollback position if a phase overruns and a make-good standard that survives a brand inspection.

Why a Hertfordshire base works for London

Junction 21A of the M25, and into the City against the traffic.

We are based at SEG House in St Albans, which puts engineers on most London sites inside the hour and lets us run night and weekend work without London labour rates or a central London yard to fund.

For channel partners running national programmes short of resource inside the M25, that is precisely the proposition — a directly employed regional delivery team, on your paperwork, under your brand.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers.

Do you charge extra for out-of-hours work in London?

Night and weekend working is planned into the programme from the outset rather than treated as an emergency variation, and the price reflects the window agreed before the order.* What we will not do is quote a daytime price on a job everyone knows has to happen at night, and then raise a variation.

Is your fleet ULEZ compliant?

Yes. Congestion Charge and any applicable parking or permit costs are itemised in the proposal rather than buried in a rate, so you can see what you are paying for access as distinct from labour.

Can you meet our building's induction and permit requirements?

Yes, and we would rather have them before we price. RAMS are issued within 48 hours,* and inductions, escort requirements, permit-to-work applications, ECS cards and DBS evidence are submitted in the format the estate or managing agent requires.

Are you based in London?

No, and we think that is an advantage rather than something to disguise. We are at SEG House in St Albans, minutes from junction 21A of the M25, which puts engineers on most London sites inside the hour and lets us run night work without funding a central London yard.

Can you work behind our brand as a subcontractor?

Yes. We work behind national infrastructure contractors, IT integrators and fit-out firms as a directly employed regional delivery team, with unbranded vehicles and engineer badging on request and test results issued on your template. Non-solicitation and confidentiality are signed before we quote, not after you ask.

Do you work in listed buildings?

Regularly, particularly in the West End. It changes the method rather than the standard: surface containment selected sympathetically, routes agreed with the building owner and, where listed building consent is required, work planned around it. We will say before quoting if we think the route needs permission.
